I can only advise you from experience, as my applications have been approved in 5 to 6 weeks. Some have been approved in 3 to 4 weeks. But it got approved in 3 weeks. If your return is assigned to an agent for review, the wait is much longer. It is a good example to follow, but you may have other issues to work through since you've been in business for a while. If you incorporated as a for-profit, then switching to a not-for-profit is an issue. If you were incorporated as a not-for-profit organization for more than 27 months and still haven't filed your 501c3, then that's another issue you'll have to address as you respond to certain questions and complete Schedule E of Form 1023. This sample was for a new 501c3 organization. It is a good example to follow, but you may have other issues to work through since you’ve been in business for a while.
