Hi Silvia,

The IRS does not have a fixed timeline to process applications.

I can only advise you from experience, as my applications have been approved in 5 to 6 weeks.
Some have been approved in 3 to 4 weeks.
Every now and then (but its quite rare), one of mine will get submitted to a review agent.
I just knew my 501c3 application for a CDC would be assigned to a review agent.
But it got approved in 3 weeks.

If your return is assigned to an agent for review, the wait is much longer.
According to this link on the IRS website: Where Is My Exemption Application?, its 9/6/11 and they are assigning returns that were submitted in March 2011 to an agent for review.

You asked "Will I be able to submit a pending status?". If this has to do with a grant application, its up to the agency awarding the grant. Some may want the Letter of Determination, while others may accept that you've submitted the application.

Peace and Blessings!

I have a few questions about the application process for a non profit 501 (c)3.

I wanted to know if you could guestimate a turn around time for approval and will I be able to submit a pending status?

I also wanted to know if the L3C Hybrid non profit for profit corporation and a private foundation ccompetible with 501(c)3?

Thanks I am looking forward to the starter kit

Hi Courtney,

Yes, the Sample 501c3 Application for Transitional Living Program for Women would be the kit. You can simply customize the description to show you are targeting this group.

By the way, I am so grateful for what you are doing. Having been a foster parent of two children and still being supportive to one of them who's now 19, I know there is a great need. May God bless you and what you are doing.

Hello Margaret,

You may purchase only one kit. The Transitional Living Programs for Women kit should be just fine.
You can tweak the wording for your programs and activities to target your niche (i.e. mental health issues for men and women).

Peace and Blessings,
Belinda

This sample was for a new 501c3 organization. It is a good example to follow, but you may have other issues to work through since you've been in business for a while. If you incorporated as a for-profit, then switching to a not-for-profit is an issue.

If you were incorporated as a not-for-profit organization for more than 27 months and still haven't filed your 501c3, then that's another issue you'll have to address as you respond to certain questions and complete Schedule E of Form 1023.
